Gumloop's $17m Series A

We're excited to start the next phase of Gumloop's growth with a $17m Series A led by Nexus Venture Partners with participation from First Round Capital, Y Combinator, angels like Max Mullen (Instacart), Shaan Puri, Bryant Chou (Webflow), Reynold Xin (Databricks) and several more.

We've raised a total of $20 million now. Raising money isn't the goal -- building a product people love is. This new capital is just to help us build that product even faster.

The Journey

We started the company in a bedroom in Vancouver, Canada 574 days ago as a side project.

We were trying to solve a very simple problem for a group of people in a Discord server who weren’t highly technical, and it spiralled into something larger than we ever imagined.

We focused on keeping the team small and iterating as fast as humanly possible on the product while talking to users. We technically raised this Series A as a team of 2 founders without hiring anyone full time (we did have 2 awesome interns for a while and 2 other exceptional contractors). We'll be growing headcount but we aim to keep this disproportionately large throughput per employee going moving forward.

What is Gumloop Today?

We're a no-code platform that lets anyone have the impact of an engineer through AI automation.

Today, thousands of users rely on Gumloop as a core tool for their business. They're building things with the platform that I would have never thought to do. Seeing the crazy automations people are creating is the best part of our job. We’ve seen everything from an indie-hacker building products on top of Gumloop to a fortune 100 sending out thousands of personalized emails to their event attendees with the platform.

It started with indie-hackers but is now an enterprise-grade tool for companies like Instacart, Webflow, Rippling, Samsara and more. Giving non-technical people the tools to solve their own problems without relying on engineers is where we found market pull.

We believe that in the not-so-distant future, anyone will be able to have the impact of an AI engineer, regardless of technical background. Understanding a problem will be the only prerequisite to solving it.

Why raise?

We didn't need the money.

We raised our seed a few months ago and run an extremely lean company. A few factors contributed to this decision.

Timing: We're at an inflection point with AI and AI tooling. We have a chance to fundamentally change how companies leverage AI. There is no better time than now to move quickly.

Focus: All we want to do is build the best possible product for our users. Raising means we can do that with no external distractions. No motivations aside from making something people need.

Talent Density: We're planning on being a 10 person billion dollar company. We're only hiring the absolute best people we can find. Being well funded helps de-risk that decision for these A+ hires.
